- Reinvest in socially responsibly funds
- Divest indirect holdings in the top 200 publicly traded fossil fuel companies within 5 years
We believe that higher education institutions like Wellesley College exist as an investment in the future their students and their society. Yet, while investing in our future, Wellesley simultaneously invests its $1.5 billion endowment in corporations that do and will continue to destroy the very futures Wellesley has invested so much to foster.
As an institution dedicated to the advancement of women and society, an institution build on the founding values of equal opportunity, Wellesley has been known for knowledge, service, and societal advancement. By investing in fossil fuel corporations, Wellesley is sacrificing its long-term survival and threatening the core values on which it was founded, for short term profits. We believe that Wellesley has a great legacy to carry forth. We believe that to maintain Wellesley’s integrity and live up to the values it promotes, Wellesley must divest from the extractive industries that are the worst perpetrators of environmental and human rights abuses.
